Reasons for workshops...

“Attending the March Creative Writing Weekend Workshop provided with a whole new perspective on writing! I have always enjoyed writing but time seems to always be an issue. During this workshop Tara provided valuable tools on how to remove writing road blocks and find the time…which is always there (yes I said always!). I would recommend this workshop to anyone…in fact I plan to attend anther workshop and bring along my husband! He is not an avid writer but I believe he will find as much value in this opportunity as I did.”

Sincerely,
Nicole Johnson
Future Published Author

I think one of the best rewards that I gain from being an author is setting others plans in motion. The purpose of my events is to engage with my readers and help them to reach their fullest potential. This potential can be different depending on the person. Some come to my workshops to network with others and to improve their writing skills, others come to relieve stress and many come to find out more about the publishing process. The next Creative Writing Weekend Workshop is May 23rd. I'd love to see you!

THE BEST THING ABOUT THE JOURNAL...

The journal is the playground of writing. It is free time for the mind. You can write what you want...no rules! Poetry, thoughts, recipes, stories and the beginning of a book can be found in a journal. The journal helps the brain to think better and usually aides the writer in the thought process. If you like freedom in writing...the journal is for you! My book "Who I Am Not What I Am" began as a journal inscription and now it is a published book available in many stores globally! Find a journal that you love...and write away!

Self Affirmation Writings

Self-Affirmation writing is a self-esteem exercise that prompts the writer to journal about what they believe in, what makes them happy, etc. Fox News featured a segment on a study that was conducted in Michigan for 7th graders using this technique. They shared with their viewers that many students saw a positive increase in grade percentage during the time of this study. When people think affirming thoughts....they have a better outlook on life. When these thoughts are in print they can fleet away when the next negative occurrence happens. Journaling is one of the healthiest exercises that a person can do. It allows them to reflect, to plan, to meditate and ultimately to be successful. Successful is what you can be when you allow yourself to go after what you want. Do you want to be published? The best way to make that happen is to gain the skills that you need to make being a author a reality. My next event is A Spring Creative Writing Retreat. It will be in Northville, MI at the Hampton Inn and will include a overnight stay at the hotel, various workshops on writing, marketing your book, etc. This is a MUST for anyone who is in the writing industry, would like to see themselves published one day, and/or who enjoys writing and needs the time to do it. I hope to see you there! The cost is $150/person and you can sign up using the paypal method on this page.

notes for a rainy day....

This may sound strange...but I love to write on rainy days! Don't get me wrong I am a true sunshine fanatic...yet there is something about rainy days that makes me want to reflect. When I reflect, I write. When I was in high school I used to gaze out of the windows and enjoy seeing the clear drops hit the sidewalk and it seemed to spark a special creative nerve in me. Have you ever thought about how you can take a storm or a gloomy day and make it work for you? I find it amusing when the rain is coming down and I feel accomplished because I finally met a deadline and others complain that the rain should go away. I think it depends on how you view your circumstances. Let the rain be your guide to growth...it works for the flowers. Let the snow remind you of how beautiful life can be. Take the time to smell a flower on one of those days when the heat is making the beads of sweat pour from your forehead. It might just inspire you to reach that goal that you have on your list! Speaking of goals...If your goal is to be published...I hope to see you at the Spring Writer's Retreat April 24th-25th in Northville...space is limited and the opportunity is not! This is a great way to take your writing to the next level and get some time to reflect!

MY BUSY WEEKEND...

This weekend was a whirlwind! I was a featured author at the Westland Public Library author fair and met wonderful people including a young lady named Taylor Josephs (last picture in this post) she is only 15 and has published her own book. Taylor shared with me that she saw my photo and story in a newspaper when I was first published and this inspired her to go for her dream. I am excited to have a new author colleague in her!
Sunday I ran my first 1/2 marathon with my husband Jason! It was extremely challenging even though we trained for months. Hard work pays off in the end and we finished strong and sore! I have to admit that I was very happy about my medal and the free cookies after the finish line.
The most challenging part of the weekend was being a featured author at The Southfield Public Library Author Fair only a couple of hours after finishing the race. This event was a success and surprisingly I pulled energy from somewhere and was able to have great interactions with many authors and guests at the event.
Young Writer's Workshop is coming up on April 18 and payment must be made using paypal before April 10th. Please register today and start your career and future on the right path! This event is for those under 18!

MULTI-TASKING WEEKEND!

Readers!

This Saturday I will be a featured author at the Westland Public Library Author Fair. This event takes place at 2 p.m. and will be a great way to get a signed copy of my book and meet other authors as well. Sunday morning I will be running my first half marathon! I've always had the goal to run a race such as this and now it will actually be a dream come true. I had to practice quite a bit before getting to the point where my training could prepare me to be a runner in this event. It's not so different from writing. Many writers begin journaling and writing down there thoughts on a regular basis. Soon the writing is smoother and consistently better and before you know it they are ready for publishing (if this is the goal). Practice makes perfect in writing or running. You can come see me at the Southfield Public Library on Sunday at 2 p.m. after my race I will be at there author fair. This will be a busy weekend...but it will be a fun one. I hope I get to share one of my moments with you!
